the third chapter will be up tomorrow instead of today because of 2 reasons
1. there are some unexpected stuff happening that will make the title of the third chapter more.. approprait.
(the title is "Death metal")
2. personal but i will share it with you guys on the "whats on your mind" thread.

Re: Dwarf Fortress LP: Moltenbasement with a hint of madness!

Chapter 3, Death Metal.

~Outer walls, Moltenbasement~

Food, drinks and other supplies are either now on out of my capability to create, hope is on the horizon.

Harkon: Pull the lever and lower the Northern bridge!
Urist: lever lever lever! *runs off*

As I wait for the bridge to lower I noticed that together with the northern bridge all other bridges are lowered as well meaning Urist has just pulled every lever in reach.
I don’t see the danger in that but Jai told me that it would be dangerous. He is not the bloody leader of this fortress. I AM THE HIGH GRAND OVERSEER!

Spoiler:

Jai: Hello Hello Hello Harkon, how do you want to handle this?
Harkon: HA! I don’t feel the urge to do anything with a bunch of knife ears, YOU handle this.
And if you don’t call me OVERSEER I will let you handle the damn elves.
Jai: your degrading me to diplomacy? You can’t do that I’m the military commander!
Harkon: I can do what every I want! And I didn’t say a word about diplomacy.
Jai: so I can deal with this any way I like?
Harkon: like I care, I’m off to look for Urist.

Harkon walks off in search for Urist, Jai starts to pick new members for the militia and calls out for Lord T.

~Trade depot, Moltenbasement~

Lord T arrives at the trade depot and starts to observe the caravan.

Spoiler:

Looks fairly standard. Like any other elven caravan they have chosen to lead the caravan though the wilderness unguarded, the bloody idiots. Lord T knows the wilderness, he was one of the first seven and knows how easily things die out there.

~lower hallways, Moltenbasement~

“AAAAAH!”
Spoiler:

Bomrek: the trylodyte is on the loose! Commander Jai do something!
Spoiler:
One of the Giant Olms (a creature that can destroy buildings) is also on the loose…
Spoiler:

~From the bestiary of Rovod (the guy with the Poult)~

Troglodytes are common creatures that live in underground chasms and caves in tribes of 5 to 10. Being the size of a dwarf, they are not very dangerous to miners or trained military dwarves. Given the chance, however, they will threaten civilian dwarves, interrupting their work and chasing single dwarves.

-only dangerous in groups-

Giant Olm (not to be confused with the Olm man) is obviously a very large version of a regular olm. They are amphibious predators, which appear near subterranean water. Aside from being bigger and meaner, they're essentially the same as regular olm. They can dive, and breathe underwater with their gills. The in-game giant variety have absolutely no trouble crawling (snaking?) their way onto land and into your fortress, causing havoc and unexpected death fun.

-Building destroyer-
-used as goblin mount, even thou the goblin will die when it goes underwater-
-tamable using a dungeon master. Only nobles can be appointed to dungeon master-

~commander Jai arrives with he’s newly formed platoon~

The new recruits are:
Corey34, if he fells enemies as fast as he does with tree’s there would probably be no need for more recruits.
Zefon, highly talented ambusher and marksdwarf.
Mosus and Ral, by defending the migrants out there in the wilds they have gained enough experience to be “adequate” fighters.
Rovod and Iteb, because they wanted to make themselves useful.
Urist “Harkon’s minion”, because Harkon insisted on having he’s minion in Jai’s squad. Jai is the only serious threat to take Harkon’s place as overseer right now.

~the fighting ensues~ *Warning! Dwarf fortress fights are very weird!*

Not everybody is considers it “fighting” though, for Zefon is more like a hunt.
Spoiler:

Ral and Mosus charges at the Giant Olm.
Spoiler:

The second and last Giant Olm we managed to capture has also broken free!

The Trylodyte thought Harkon would be a easy prey, poor trylodyte.
Spoiler:
Harkon is shaking the trylodyte like a ragdoll bruising the very bone and tearing apart muscles.
Spoiler:

In the stockpiles the battle is going badly for Iteb, the poor recruit is being bitten by the second Olm and shaken by the head.

Spoiler:

Apparently Harkon got bored with the trylodyte and just tossed him away towards some peasants.
While the peasants try to fend off the enraged trylodyte commander Jai rushes in to help.
Spoiler:
Jai has proven that his skills might have gone a bit rusty but he is still the Commander of this fort.

~Meanwhile outside of the fortress.~
Spoiler:

For Christ sake Zefon really was hunting… he was shooting birds while we were fighting.
And how the hell did he get a crossbow and silver bolts?

~
Iteb has had he’s share of fun. Poor basterd shall be avenged.
Spoiler:

The Olm is now being surrounded by several dwarfs and wardogs.

Even Urist is doing his share.
Spoiler:

And while everybody is slapping, hacking and biting the Olm. (even dwarfs started to bite the olm.) another death is at hand.

Speardwarf Ral is undergoing the same treatment as poor Iteb. But he was saved! A lucky hit made the Olm puke and run of the fill the rest of the fortress in Olm puke, makes you wonder what else a Giant Olm eats besides dwarfs..

Hunter Zefon is now looking for bigger game and is fighting the puking Giant Olm.
Spoiler:
The last Giant Olm has been beating to a bloody pulp.

Why didn’t the great commander finish the last Olm you ask? Because he was mourning the death of his brave war turkey. (believe it or not, but the small thing really attacked the giant Olm.)

Spoiler:
~After the bloody fight~

Harkon came out of his office again to fetch Urist and asses the current situation.
Jai: Hello hello hello Harkon where have you been? You missed a good fight.
Harkon: ITS OVERSEER, and explain to me how those animals succeeded to escape!
Jai: we don’t know yet but we don’t expect a sabotage.
Harkon: well I think it was sabotage! It all happened the same time those damn tree huggers entered this fort, kill the elfs!
Jai: alrighty then, more killing!

And so it was decided through fair trail and thorough investigation that the elves were the ones responsible.

Harkon: URIST YOU SLAKKER COME HERE!
Urist: Yaaaaay
Spoiler:
Harkon: you got blood on your nose you halfwit, let’s go to the office.

Next chapter the execution of those sneaky elves will take place!

OCC1: This chapter really was all about the fighting and action that's why it seems very short.
OCC2: i'm going to ask the guys/gals from the Dwarf fortress forums to draw harkon swinging around the trylodyte while dogs are biting it, they usually offer those services.

Hahaha this was extremely entertaining Arrow, very nice! I loved the bit describing me beating the troglodyte into a bloody pulp. Razz

Also :

"Jai: we don’t know yet but we don’t expect a sabotage.

Hahahahaha Laughing
Very thorough investigation indeed!

Very nice first defense if i do say so myself! I knew that brainwashing would pay off, i have a felling the true culprit behind this is harkon or his little minion.... trying to find a way to discredit me!....... if i was in mourning over my fighting turkey then i would investigate this matter!!

i just make one humble request that we keep the girly elves so i can reward my men and Krax the dwarf rider when he finally arrives!

i can try to meet all your demands but there are somethings you need to know.

-A buzzar can't be tamed unless done by a Dungeon master (thus a noble)

-Dwarfs make statues at random so i will expect some very crazy statues before i find a suiting one.

-the dwarfs are very slow at digging at the moment so it might take a while.

there once was a fortress more then 200 years old, it was enormous and housed a giant army of Giant Rocs. i olso want a giant roc army.

about Roc's (category "Mega beast") comparison with dwarfs Dwarf body size: 60,000 cm3 Giant roc body size: 20,000,000 cm3

Jai! I was the hero of the day! I didn't use any sharp mining pick, I, with my bare hands, made a toy out of a troglodyte without suffering a SINGLE scratch! I guess that shows who's the true man... Anyone with a pointy weapon can slay a beast!

Also, I will not allow the elves to live! Traitors will never live under my rule.

Re: Dwarf Fortress LP: Moltenbasement with a hint of madness!

Post  Sir Jai on Mon Dec 19, 2011 4:44 am

there is a difference between actually slaying a beast and hugging onto something in order to keep yourself safe! it was my milita, after proper brainwashing....err training, that fought the beast and it was I who slayed it! tongue

the elves are not traitors since they were never under your rule, they owed no allegiance to you, in fact it was your assistant that opened all the bridges and who is the traitor that is responsible for the death of Iteb. that and since you are HIS overseer i hold you responsible for the death and loss my fighting turkey, so your a traitor too!! cheers

since Urist informed me of his mistake and apologized for the death of my turkey i forgive him and I charge you with all of these accounts! study

I her3 by declare you unfit for rule since you cause the death of Iteb and put us all to risk! yeah i am making a move already its what i do Very Happy...say i am not the hero when i lose my turkey Sad

now to find a way to punish silly urist Very Happy

its perfectly normal for a dwarf to want to change his strong warrior body for a fat greasy noble so he can get attacked by animals all day.

are you sure? Nobles don't go to the frontlines

Well to be honest he is a noble but he is the cool kind of noble who actually works. Normally a noble never works and expects to have everything. Even his own guard. Nobles also got a pet dog. A hammerer who punishes dwarfs who aren't fulfilling the needs of the nobles.
