Wasteland 2 (!)

Post  Angantyr on Tue Mar 13, 2012 6:09 pm

Check this out nubs, Brian Fargo the original creator of games like Fallout 1 and Baldur's Gate (!!) is involved with a project to make a sequel to the old critically-acclaimed Wasteland game (the first post-apocalyptic computer RPG, the game that originally inspired the Fallout series).

If this goes through we can probably expect a hardcore RPG where one wrong turn kills you and where there's no save option so you'll have to live with your choices, no pussying out like in modern RPGs and better yet being completely fan funded no industry compromises!

See this awesome video which also draws up lines between the old-school game craftsmanship and modern commercializing of the creative process and corruption of the artistic principles. This is how games should be made.

"where there's no save option"

Y u yu be running the game nonstop for over 9000 (!) thousand horses? Yes, horses.

Other than that, it does seem interesting.. Never got around to play Baldur's Gate though, guess it's almost like Diablo of some sort.
Anyhow did you ever play the first Wasteland game?

*Edit* Lol, the Wasteland game remids me of the good old Chip game every single computer seemed to have. Razz

I'm not sure that the new Wasteland will not have a save option but the first game hadn't and the idea seems to be make it true to the spirit of the old one. It will be a bit like playing mb with the realism setting.

And no, I've never played Wasteland myself regrettably only read about it..

Baldur's Gate is a long way from Diablo. Diablo is an action RPG where the only RPG element is the character levelling system and Baldur's Gate 1 & 2 are probably the best true form RPGs for the PC, story-driven, dynamic and believable game world, multiple choice branching dialogue, consequential character choices, NPC party interaction and all that jazz that makes a good RPG. It's quite beautiful 2d graphics too, even today, I'd warmly recommend you to try BG2. Dragon Age 1&2 are very close to the original BG recipe so you know what type of game you are looking at, though BG was more hardcore as modern games tend to aim for 'accessability' which translates to dumbing them down and an unwillingness to let players suffer for bad playing, which regrettably skewers the risk/reward balance (like modern MMOs where there's near to no consequence for dying).

Hmm I might even pledge 15$ to it so I have a nice gift for my sis in 2014.

Have to find out more about the reliability of that concept. Sounds like venture capital.

Yah. I even made an account with kickstarter just for this but it wont let me do the right thing without ... a credit card.

Who owns a credit card these days, I already bought a mobile phone when I was 21. Isnt that enough already?
