Game project: Amon

Some of you already know that I am trying to make a game. I didn't had plans to write that public since game is in early development but Amon said that I should make a thread about it so that he can see it,comment give ideas. You can do the same.

Game currently has no name so it's just project Amon (hope that now Amon got his dose of attention Wink )


Work in progres SS:

As you can see on the SS game is quite ugly since there are just some placeholder textures. green is grass blue is watter and that white thing is unit

It will be 2d tile turn based strategy game placed probably in some medieval fictional world. I can't tell you much more since even I don't know it Smile

I more or less finished with the world generator which randomly generates world by the data that we input. There is few types of tiles:
-grass
-wood
-river/lake (difference in shape butt looks the same currently)
-desert

Currently wood and desert are just planed, but it's not hard to add them.


Right now I almost finished script for moving units. When you 1 click on a unit the territory where it can move becomes a little bit yellow and on second click move to where you clicked if it's in range.
I still need to add code which will make sure that you can't go across the river if there is no bridge, but this will come latter when we will have bridges.

Now I will probably focus on adding town in to the game and town functions like producing units and resources.



This is pretty much everything for now like I told to Amon but he didn't listen. I still didn't decided about how will you play if you will be just lord/king like in MB and you will just give orders and be able to control your personal army or you will be able to control everything.

Also that I don't forget the controls:
-on the begriming enter values for world generation and then click build map, if you click build map again you get a new map.
-move with mouse or click on the button to move with A,W,S,D.
-zoom in/out with mouse wheel
-press 'C' to focus back on the middle of the map
-click spawn unit to spawn 1 unit (white box) which is just place holder to check moving
-to move unit click on it and then click where you want to move

Engine or program is Unity and scripts are done in some kind of java script.

Jur I humbly suggest you to licence a ph4t 3D engine and some marketing bitches to distract you from coding.

Otherwise I cannot see any way you could improve an already perfect game...

will you implant forests/wood because you want to create "resources" or because you want strategic battle advantages. if there is going to be any kind of killing it should happen in the forest!

Forest have the chance of randomly spawn a mod that will seek out and attack the player!

will the game have a year cycle?

forest will be for resource and strategy, you will be able to make ambushes or move concild, not great terrain for cav and such.

yearc cycle? you mean how much time will be betwen turns? It will have probably week or day turns. Not decided yet.

I was thinking more along the lines of flood seasons that would increase lakes and render bridges useless for a certain amount of turns. (if its a turn based game)

Not really, just dreaming about it what could I did if I had some code monkey that would work instead of me.

So anyone here know someone who could make some textures for me? I can't really pay him, but he gets a share of what ever profit I make.

Today I finished more or less moving of the units, but that script still have one ugly bug in it. And also made it so that settler can build camp. You will probably be able to only build 2 things in the game: camp and fortified camp.

They will evolve like this:

camp->village->villages->town->city

fortified camp->camp with wooden wall->camp with tower -> camp with stown tower -> castle.

Now I need to make functions for camp:
-resource harvesting
-population growth
-army building
-evolving
-and probably some other things

When I finish with this I need to make AI and game is more or less ready. (still a lot of time needed for this). But if I want that game feels right I need to make it look beter then DF and get some music. So if anyone of you can help in any way you are wellcome You can also just give ideas.

If you need a coder or a modeler I could proberly help you out.

I have worked a bit with Unity3D, i dont really know any Java (Yet!), but im good at C#.

I can do models and have, or have access to, all the fancy autodesk programs.
I dont do organic stuff though (humans, animals ect.) i suck at that.

Fennris tnx for offering help. I code in JS so I don't know how could I merge your code in C#. I got some lazy texturer who has to do textures for tiles.
I would be happy if you would do some models. I would need models for units, but you said that you don't do organic stuff, but I still need models for settlements and buldings (camp,town,village...) and some terrain models.
Diffrent tiles with forest and tiles with mountains (catch here is that mountains on the edge of the tile need to be same size so that it looks good if the touch with other mountain tile. Also some mountain tiles which are start or end of the mountain.)
If you wan't I can give you some paint scatches or if we can talk on TS when we are both on.

Fennris then you should learn to model organic things and you can make some nude models Razz

This is for Fennris:

Concept and sketches of mountain tiles:

I will latter add scethes for settlements.

Settlement:


But without all the houses only one of those big houses but don't make it really big.

Village: Something like that picture.But only one the middle of the tile.

Villages: Village in the middle and in the corrners a little villages.

Town:


Wall and stown houses where was the middle village before, but don't make it so geometric.

City: Bigger town trough the whole tile, with wall around it. You can keep Town in the middle and just add more buildings around with with wall on the edges of the tile.

I hope that you understand everything if not just tell me on TS and you can make more versions of each model, so that it will be more diverse.
