Any of you play it?

Just started playing yesterday, and so far it's an amazing game.

Julius does, as did i but then I had to choose between EVE, smoking and alcohol, and decided EVE was the one to drop.

Harkon you troll, where do I grind, I don't think I've ever really played a grind based game Razz

EVE has automatic skill training, you don't even have to play it for your character to progress Wink

Anyway, there can be a lot grinding with mining and incursions and such in the game but I'm avoiding that by playing with a group of friends in their corporation, we have diplomacy, trading, mining ops and ship construction yards to protect, planetary bases and wars with other corps, seems pretty awesome. EVE is gigantic, and the possibilities almost endless, if you think it's like any other MMO you should check it out.

But I'm only dipping a toe, not jumping in with both legs - this game is massive.

EVE is the least grind MMO there is.... the only grind there is to get money but only if you want it as fast as possible... leveling is purly time based.... cant really call something that req zero effort to level grind....

Anyway...

I might start playing again, i do have an orca pilot(supports/boosts miners) and a fighter/miner character.

but are you starting fresh or enhanced Wink

Re: EVE Online

Post  Amon on Thu Feb 02, 2012 9:54 pm

I played on and off for years.

Worst best thing I ever did is gift my highly specialised char away. He had no trade/build/mine-skills whatsoever and the only grind I had was waiting for battles and logistics after them Razz . Top notch Amarr T2 Battleship, Battlecruiser, Interdictor and Heavy Assault Cruiser pilot. Most of the time flying as an Interdictor (Heretic) pilot those big battles since those are/were highly specialised, suicidal primary targets and thus unpopular.

Eve took away too much of my time though, a nightmare. One skill I trained while not being subscribed - I think Battleship V oder HAC V took 3 months to train.

I started and ended playing for a small german corp of friends. In between I had two awesomely destructive tours with Black Nova Corporation, Band of Brothers.

My char is still out there so you can see some of the battles I fought, ships I killed, owned and lost.

Damn. Never. Go. Back.

I have played it for a few months, but I've stopped during the winter when my subscription ran out, and I'm a bit low on cash. I enjoyed it quite a lot but I only had one friend playing, and he was far ahead of me in terms of experience.

Angantyr! why didn't you start with me back when we talked about it? Ah, it's never too late I guess.

i agree that eve is the MMO that have managed the best to create a "living world"

iv not seen any MMO other than UO that have manged this.... There are now alot of EVE lore... like how band of brothers got disbanded/crushed, russian mafia bla bla bla hehe alot of shit to read and its not really a bad read.

It has good anti bot protection (not perfect but its good so you cant really just record a macro and run it over and over)

What i personaly think it lack alittle is goals other than "get that ship" and cater to the "non-pvp" ppl. but wormholes have made that better.

Personaly i enjoyed scanning and wished that had been made even better.

I didnt like the planetside prodection at all since i found it very poorly implimented.

Re: EVE Online

Post  Angantyr on Mon Feb 06, 2012 7:12 pm

I'm sorry Gule, my mind was in the Middle-Ages then, now it's partly in space!

Interesting characters Amon and Krax, especially as you have both gone opposite ways.

I'm standing at the crossroads now, on which I must decide in which direction to build my character. I'm pretty interested in mining operations in low sec space but people tell me that mining becomes boring in the long run if you don't have any fighting skills to spice it up with, or a side character on another account. Otherwise I can just fly protection.

After reading a lot about the lore, player-made and dev-written, I first chose a rebel Minmatar engineer background, but after looking through all the ship types in the game I realized that I need to be in the Amarr Empire (though Minmatar are really cool and I love their sun sails). Not only are they dedicated slavers, religious fanatics and monarchists with a 500 years old God-Emperor (no, not your delirious idol Rhade, Harkon, if I got you confused there Wink ), they also have an exquisite ship design imo, a philosophy of the strongest armor tanking in the universe and energy-based weapons decorated with patterns taken out of the French court anno 1700, with golden scrollwork almost in the Classic sense. So stylish!

And not to forget they value age above everything else, always striving to look old and dignified, and they prefer uniform- or robe-like clothing (uniforms reminiscent of imperial Austrian uniforms which I've always found really beautiful) and wear visibile head-implants instead of hair.

Currently my mind is set on commandeering a frigate as my main ship, probably a Magnate or Retribution something, and then steering towards a good grasp on piloting a battlecruiser, so that I can join an FC friend of mine who runs some pretty serious incursions, earning a plex a day or so, so that I can pay my account with in-game ISK (being against all kinds of p2p games). After that I will start mining a bit I think. If nothing else I can also be an explorer when I can defend and/or cloak myself. In the long run I'm also really interested in industry, perhaps investing in some planetary bases. So many options, I'd probably need several accounts. Wish I'd been here from the start as one of my friends has, who've been playing since 2003. He can do most on a single character, though he has 3.

At least that's my plan for now from the pov of a complete EVE nåb.

I just got into EVE again and I forgot how amazing it was. :O And I can walk around in a tiny room as a character!

But dern you Amarr bastard! (My main character is Minmatar) But I' just starter a Gallente miner/industrial type person, I just need a ship with a lot of drone capacity and buy mining drones to make mining look truly epic.

And also wait for Pancakes to get a compuderp so he can protect meh. D:

Add me Titan, my characters are called Turon Sol (Minmatar), and Kyber Se (Amarr). What are you called?

And yes, the new 3rd person feature is awesome, really looking forward to being able to walk around stations with other players like that.

Re: EVE Online

Julius is Amarr as well, though that bastard stole my name and is flying around as "kerttir" (even managed to mispell and and noticed you can't even change the name), and from what I hear the fanaticism, slavery and a certain pompousness are the things that drive him to play as one.

I had a pirate, a Minmatar Vherokior back when I played, which was fairly exciting once you finally - after long scans - managed to find someone mining about innocently and then charging in, jamming all the way so they can't escape and then start gunning like a madman.

Damn you all, I'm starting to want to get to this again.

Re: EVE Online

Post  Amon on Tue Feb 07, 2012 1:08 am

Angantyr the battlecruiser ist a fine choice. A very affordable powerful T1 weapons platform. I flew them later than I flew Fleet-Battleships and Heavy Assault Cruisers but their cost effectiveness made them the better choice for many gangs.

I started out flying a punisher with money I got from a friend, you can quite well skip the destroyers and go for cruisers afterwards which are very versatile.

The Minmatar have some of the very best cruisers, but the Amarr dont need to buy and carry Ammo which is quite nice if you are in 0.0 space.

Armor tanking though is an energy feasting process - when I left remote repairing gangs were quite successfull.

Always go with a setup you can afford to loose. A young char might not do everything as well as an old one, but his ships and clones are so much cheaper the playing field gets even. Find your role as a beginner. As a frigate pilot your natural role - being in a fast and agile ship - is that of a tackler.

Get 1-2 points and or a web on your opponents means that your friends can pulverize him. Keep your radial velocity high and adjust your distance so he cant hurt you that well and you have a very challenging and rewarding role. With experience and skillpoints the role will change but you have learned combat from the ground up like this.

Take everything. Give nothing back.
